Sweet, sweet justice

Every now and again, on my way to work, I hit this annoying light. It’s not overly long, but it just sucks when you hit because it’s one of those lights that somehow, you just feel isn’t really needed.

So, I look over at the car next to me, and I recognize it immediately. A silver Subaru wagon. This driver is one of THE jackhole drivers of the area. It’s not that he speeds or tailgates or anything like that — but he has this little habit of drifting into the middle of the intersection during red lights, so when it turns green, he has a “jump’ on everyone else. It’s like a passive-aggressive “My time is more valuable than yours” kind of move, and it makes me wish for “invincibility mode” on my car so I could just punch the gas and ram him. And his little habit is especially annoying at this particular intersection because it is a “T”, and cars making a right have to watch out for this jerk, even though they clearly have the green light and  the right-of-way.

Sure enough, we’re there for 10 seconds, and he starts drifting into the center of the intersection. And you can see he’s trying to time the light change, but completely miscalculated when it’s going to turn. You can see he realizes this, but instead of backing up, he says “Fuck it, it’s Friday and I’m getting home.” He punches the gas, cuts off a guy making a right and simply blows through the red light.

And before I could even get out “What a fuckin’ asshole …” — seemingly out of nowhere — a cop flips on his lights and zooms after him. Yup, he did this with a cop sitting right behind him.

I started laughing hysterically. And as I drove past the pulled-over jackhole and the cop, I gave the officer the “rock on” devil horns. I doubt he saw me or realized the joy that he gave me by catching this guy in the act, but man, I’ve been in a chipper mood for the rest of the day because of it.

Who says there’s never a cop around when you need one?

Yeah – now if only he learns a lesson and doesn’t just talk about how that cop was an ahole that was out to get him and how he was totally in the right…
